Audio over Wi-Fi
App Audio is a unique product that enables operators (gyms, clubs, bars and hotels – or anywhere showing TV pictures) to allow guests to listen to audio through their own smart phones.
In the Gym
In the past cardio entertainment has been just that, Cardio Entertainment. Now, in line with current industry trends and gym designs, App Audio allows all gym users to listen to TV content and music streams through the club’s guest Wi-Fi while they workout anywhere in the club.
App Audio can also be installed as a tile within the clubs’ own App (see Golds Gyms, Planet Fitness) so that members open your App to hear the TV and audio content provided within the building.
Or connect a channel to your on-demand group exercise classes to offer silent spin, yoga or pump on the gym floor, without disturbing other members.
In the Bar
Sports bars are the obvious choice for App Audio as it allows customers to choose the game that they want while not dictating the main event for the whole bar. If you have four TV sources (Sky, BT, BBC, ITV) all showing different events at the same time, let your customer choose what to follow or to switch between audio from different screens.
The traditional bar or hotel bar can also benefit from App Audio, if like me you work away from home and stay in hotels on your own through business, you will understand that eating alone can be boring. In the past I took newspapers to read while waiting on service and food to arrive, now it is a smart phone or tablet to entertain me while I wait. However, if there is a big screen showing an event (in fact showing anything) it makes for a better experience. I would rather watch Sky Sports, Sky Sports News or Sky News on a big screen than on a 2-inch smart phone. In addition, Sky Go on my smart phone or tablet, although brilliant in some environments, runs 90 seconds (that’s a minute and a half) behind the live broadcast received on a TV screen.
By introducing App Audio to your guests, you allow them to choose to be entertained or not, you allow the background ambiance to remain without forcing the whole bar to listen to the TV content through speakers.
There will be times when the bar will be handed over to the main event (i.e Russia 2018 – England games.) when the speakers in the bar will carry commentary and everyone will be watching, but what happens at full time, not everyone will want to hear post-match analysis, but some will, App Audio can be used by those that want to listen, meaning they stay in the bar longer.
At a University
For Student unions see Sports Bars, for the campus fitness centre see gyms, but that same App can then be used in the lecture halls so that students can hear a lecture. It works on the wifi and the audio content that you connect into it would be different in the lecture hall, the gym and the student union bar. One App in all the areas.
Railway stations / Motorway service areas
Standing recently at London Euston waiting for my trains platform to appear on the board, I realised that there are 3 very big screens carrying advertising that used to show 24-hour news, why not use App audio to allow travellers to choose to listen to the TV, the station announcer, local radio or travel advice.
I recently watched the bobsleigh in the winter Olympics while having a sandwich at a motorway service on the M25. No commentary and I am not a bobsleigh fan; however, it was the GB team so I watched. Extra Motorway services at Beaconsfield (M40 junction 2) have now installed App Audio for the giant screen in the food hall ready for the world cup so that visitors can hear the game as well as watch the game.
App Audio is a free download app from Apple store or Google play and with all the possibilities it will surely become a must in the UK in the same way as it is starting to be in the USA and Europe.
